Background
In 2005 the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) developed the Witness Management System (WMS) to help support Witness Care Units introduced as part of the No Witness No Justice (NWNJ) initiative. This was carried out on behalf of the Criminal Justice IT Group as a multi-agency project.
Roles
WMS is a hybrid of CMS, tailored to the specific needs of witness care and used by CPS and police witness care staff. A range of changes are planned that will help to ensure that witnesses are cared for appropriately throughout the process. Benefits include improvements in the efficiency and effectiveness of criminal cases.
The availability of the national CMS system was a key factor in the decision to use the CPS and LogicaCMG to develop WMS.
