Simon Webb is the Director-General for International Networks and Environment at the Department for Transport. His responsibilities include the maritime and air gateways to the UK, environmental and international issues, and transport security. From 2004 he was responsible for Corporate Services and Delivery (including Major Projects)


Previous Work

Previously Simon was the Policy Director at the Ministry of Defence, leading on the production of White Papers in 2002 (post September 11) and 2003/4 (defence restructuring), and international initiatives, including the creation of the European Defence Agency. Simon Webb's work on politico/military aspects of defence followed earlier experience on UN Peacekeeping and Counter Insurgency operations and as Private Secretary to Ministers of Defence (1989-1992). He has worked in HM Treasury (energy industries) and the British Embassy, Washington (trade and R&D co-operation). His earlier career also included defence acquisition where he was team leader for smart procurement and led on privatisation of the shipbuilding industry.

Education

Simon Webb was educated at Oxford University (Engineering and Economics) and has diplomas in Accounting and International Business.
