Roles

The Security and Counter Terrorism Science & Innovation Strategy, led by the new Office for Security and Counter Terrorism, sets out how science and innovation will be harnessed to reduce the risk from terrorism. It also sets out how the Home Office intend to work with their partners in the private sector and academia, with international colleagues, and within Government, to use science and innovation to strengthen their counter-terrorism capabilities.

Method

They set out four key ways in which they will do this:

  • Expanding a cross-departmental approach to identifying Government’s counter-terrorism research priorities;
  • Horizon-scanning for future threats and new scientific developments to counter such threats;
  • Working more effectively with business and academia to ensure research is delivered and exploited through the cultivation of a strong and innovative counter-terrorism research market; and
  • Coordinating collaboration with international partners, allowing increased sharing of knowledge and technologies
