Professionalism in IT programme
From SR
Background
The Professionalism in IT programme was set up by the BCS in early 2005 as a managed programme intended to give substance to the stated ambition of the BCS to lead the profession of the 21st century and to build IT professionalism to the level at which it is seen to exist in other areas of professional activity.
Aims
The programme has two key objectives:
- By increasing professionalism, to improve the ability of business and society to exploit the potential of information technology effectively and consistently.
- To build an IT profession respected and valued for the contribution it makes to the exploitation and application of IT for the benefit of all - Government, business leaders, IT employers, IT users and customers.
NCC and Intellect are working towards the realization of sustainable benefits to the UK economy by raising the standards of professionalism in the demand and supply side of the IT industry.
Through the employer-driven strategy of e-skills UK and the vocational and professional recognition of IT skills by BCS, the ProfIT Programme is shaping the capability and capacity of the UK workforce.
The programme gave substance to the stated ambition of BCS to lead the profession of the 21st century and to build IT professionalism to the level seen to exist in other areas of professional activity.
The programme recognised the changing environment in which IT practitioners work and the increasing demands and expectations of customers. It also recognised the need to develop a much more business-focused profession.
