Dr Jordan Giddings is Deputy Chief Scientific Adviser for the Department for Transport.

Education

After a degree in Physics at Balliol College, Oxford, and a PhD in Particle Physics at Imperial College, London, Jordan started his career as a particle physicist working at University College, London, DESY in Hamburg and CERN in Geneva.

Work

In 1994, Jordan joined the Defence Research Agency, part of the UK MOD developing advanced modelling techniques. Having delivered a cross-departmental logistics analysis capability, in 1999 Jordan moved to the Office of Science and Technology in the UK Department of Trade and Industry where he took responsibility for the Defence, Aerospace and Systems Panel of Foresight, supporting the then Government Chief Scientific Adviser, Sir Robert May. After a short spell as Head of the Smart Acquisition Management Team in the MOD, Jordan returned to the newly privatised QinetiQ as Defence Science and Technology Strategy Co-ordinator in 2001 until joining the Department for Transport in 2007 as Deputy to Prof Brian Collins, the departmental Chief Scientific Adviser.

Beyond his roles in Transport, Jordan also leads on a number of Information and Communications Technology initiatives for the Home Office.
