Background
Since 1938, as the international environment has changed, civil protection has responded; progressing through the principle of ‘Integrated Emergency Management’ to the present-day use of a Multi-disciplinary ‘capabilities’ or ‘resilience’ approach, planning to mitigate threats & consequences from any cause including; natural events, terrorism, socio-technological catastrophe & system failure. Whilst the over-arching aim of the Institute remains constant, its evolving membership & activities ensure that its approach is consistent with current ideology.
