The Fire Service College has built a reputation as the premier training establishment of its kind in the world after 38 years of continuous development at the Moreton-in-Marsh site in England. A wide variety of incident scenarios are simulated on their extensive training ground and their new and outstanding urban search and rescue training ground.

Building fires and accidents, road, rail, aircraft and shipping incidents, and chemical plant, oil storage, industrial and offshore emergencies are created routinely. The strictest standards of safety are maintained at all times.

The Fire Service College Library supports the practical training and provides a range of services to those at the Fire Service College, to the fire and rescue services and to the fire industry. It is regarded as the most comprehensive fire-related, specialist library in existence.

With unrivalled expertise in fire safety and fire engineering, they offer professionally validated courses from foundation to degree level. The course design and delivery systems of the Community Safety Support Centre and the Operational Enterprise Section are quality certified organizations to ISO 9001, 2000.

As an agency of the Department for Communities and Local Government, the Fire Service College’s main focus is to supply training and consultancy to Fire & Rescue Services and to support the modernization agenda. Their integrated operational, fire safety, leadership and management development programmes are contextualized to reflect the real-world needs of fire & rescue services.

Most training is conducted at the Moreton-in-Marsh site but they also offer outreach courses both in the United Kingdom and overseas. Regular outreach delivery of Fire Service College standard courses is undertaken at the Scottish Fire Service Training School, Gullane, Edinburgh and the Ministry of Defence Training School at Manston, Kent. This approach has proved so popular that it has been extended recently to the presentation of regular fire safety workshops and seminars at conference venues all over the United Kingdom.

Structure

Many of the tutors are seconded from United Kingdom Fire & Rescue Services and are experienced in the practical application of the latest fire safety legislation and technology. They are supported by specialist chemists, engineers, building tutors and fire engineers.
