Purpose
Compass Case Management System (CMS) is a national case management system and management information system in use across the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). It enables better preparation and presentation of the prosecution case. The system makes the CPS the first criminal justice agency to have one national electronic system. Immediate internal benefits include the capacity to conduct national searches and less reliance on paper files.
Criminal Justice System
The CMS has wider links to the Criminal Justice System (CJS) which the CPS continues to develop to support case management practices in relation to legislative and business change. Benefits for the CPS and CJS are primarily improvement in the timely, efficient and effective prosecution of crimial cases.
