The Association of Electricity Producers (AEP) is the leading trade association for the UK electricity market. They represent companies that make the electricity upon which the country depends.

The AEP promotes the interests of its members and the vital investments that they make to provide the UK with heat, light and power. It does this by:

  • lobbying Government and regulators such as OFGEM, in the UK and the EU, to improve understanding of the industry and pursue the best possible climate for investment
  • playing a part in the governing bodies of the electricity and gas industries
  • discussion with the companies that run the electricity and gas networks and speaking on behalf of the industry in the news media.

Members

Their members generate electricity using coal, gas and nuclear power as well as renewable sources such as wind, biomass and water. They include businesses ranging from small family enterprises to large, international electricity companies.

Most members of AEP generate electricity for the wholesale market. Non-generator members offer support services to the sector such as consultancy or legal services.

Committees

The Association's work is undertaken by the various committees and working groups. Member companies may choose which committee they wish to be represented on, depending on their company's interests and business focus.
