Alan Pratt is the Director of the UK’s Home Office Scientific Development Branch (HOSDB), which provides a broad range of scientific advice, innovation and technical operational support across the Home Office, law enforcement agencies and other government departments.

Alan is an internationally recognised expert in surveillance technology with a broad background in applied science. Having studied physics at Imperial College, Alan joined the Home Office to develop world leading surveillance technology before becoming Deputy Director and Chief Scientist, then Director in 2004. He is a Fellow and Vice-President of the Institute of Physics.
