The AeroSpace and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD) represents the aeronautics, space, defence and security industries in Europe in all matters of common interest with the objective of promoting and supporting the competitive development of the sector. ASD pursues joint industry actions which require to be dealt with on a European level or which concern issues of an agreed transnational nature, and generates common industry positions.
ASD’s overall mission is to enhance the competitive development of the Aeronautics, Space, Defence and Security Industry in Europe in partnership with European Institutions and Member associations.
ASD's role is to:
- Represent the European industry to promote its interests and to ensure high priority for this sector in European public policy, provide early warning on policy issues, assess impact, initiate and shape policy and develop common positions
- Offer a single point of contact between this industry sector and relevant stakeholders in the European institutions
- Facilitate the development of SMEs and the Eqipment sector within a competitive supply chain
- Coordinate at the European level such services and activities as R&T, cooperative European initiatives, environment, standardisation, training/retraining, quality, airworthiness; assess human resource and skills as well as social impact, promote trade in coordination with National Associations, sponsor workshops/conferences initiatives
- Promote international cooperation, lead the dialogue with other International Associations and Organisations and represent the European Aerospace and Defence industry towards the industry of other countries/regions where a European common denominator exists
Key Priorities for 2008
- Support air transport industry ability to meet environmental targets
- Within 2008 budget revision, improve EU funding for ASD Industry activities
- Contribute to 2008 ESA Ministerial Council and promote effective implementation of the European space policy
- Encourage the implementation of appropriate and robust defence industry, cooperation & market policies at EU level
- Encourage the implementation of robust security industry & market policies at EU level
- Promote European contribution to international quality and standards
- Develop international cooperation
Members
ASD has 30 member associations in 20 countries across Europe
Committees
The Commissions, Committees and Working Groups regularly gather industry representatives to pool their expertise to devise common solutions for the industry, and to provide advice to officials and authorities dealing with the industry.
The objective of the ASD Commissions is to identify policy issues to be pursued at European and Member State level and to propose strategies to maximise the benefits for the ASD industry.
The Committees and Working Groups focus on particular issues as their names suggest. They discuss the detailed topics, draft position papers and issue recommendations to the industry and other stakeholders
